In week 4 of our series, we learn some armors we can equip ourselves with to overcome these diabolical wars. The main points discussed for overcoming these wars are understanding that it is possible to overcome, resisting the the devil and being humble. Discussion/Life Group Questions: 1. Why is it important to believe that overcoming sin and temptation is possible? How does the devil use fear and despair to make us think otherwise? What examples from Scripture or the saints show that victory is possible? 2. Why does Scripture and the Church teach us to resist temptation immediately rather than debate it? Consider the example of Eve in the Garden, David with Bathsheba, and Judas’ greed—what would have changed if they had resisted instantly? Discuss a time when you resisted immediately. How does the story of the hot coal relate to how we should handle sinful thoughts? 3. In Luke 10:19, Jesus gives us authority over the enemy. How should this shape our perspective on spiritual warfare? Why do we sometimes act as if the devil has more power than he actually does? How did St. Anthony the Great demonstrate confidence in Christ’s power against demons? 4. How do we sometimes “keep the door open” to temptation rather than rejecting it outright? In what ways do we justify our actions, thinking we won’t fall? Are we aware that we sometimes, knowingly or unknowingly, justify our actions? What are some modern examples of “making an appointment to sin,” and how can we break those habits? 5. Why does humility terrify the devil? How does humility connect to depending on God’s strength rather than our own? How can we practice humility in a way that strengthens us against temptation? 6. Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us not to trust in our own understanding. Why is self-reliance dangerous in spiritual warfare? What are ways we can actively trust in God rather than ourselves when facing temptations? How does knowing our spiritual weakness actually make us stronger in Christ? This sermon is taught by brother, Deacon Seyoum, during Saint Paul Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo (SPOT) Church's Sunday Service. #subscribe #like #comment #share #sermon #viral #trending #youtube #sermon #liturgy #praise #worship #love #shorts
