(7 May 2020) FOR CLEAN VERSION SEE STORY NUMBER: apus135730 Democratic Presidential Candidate Joe Biden says the killing of an African American man in Georgia by two white men armed with guns is a lynching. "Lynch before our very eyes. 2020 style. Lynched so plainly unmistakable without mercy," said Biden while doing a roundtable via video conference on Thursday from his home in Delaware. "His family and the country deserve justice and they deserve it now." Biden's comments comes after after a cellphone video surfaced online Tuesday shows the Feb. 23 shooting of Ahmaud Arbery. Arbery's parents have called for immediate arrests as they faced the prospect of waiting a month or longer before a Georgia grand jury could consider bringing charges. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is now looking into the case. No one has been charged, but a prosecutor says he will present the case to a grand jury. That could take a month or more since Georgia's courts are closed because of the coronavirus. Attorneys for Arbery's parents said Wednesday the men should be arrested without waiting for a grand jury indictment. "African-American mothers and fathers should feel confident that their children are safe walking down the streets in America until we get there work remains urgent and unfinished," said Biden. "It's the promise I make to y'all and to everybody across America. As president, I will work tirelessly, tirelessly to get us to that day."
