In this video, I touch on the challenges we faced in the process of drilling a borehole at our homestead in Zimbabwe and the surprise that we got at the end of it all. I still don't understand what it was supposed to mean. If you plan to drill a borehole in Zimbabwe, due diligence is key. It won't save you all your money, but it will save you most of it. From the drilling companies, agents purporting to be the owners of the drilling rigs, to locals and the customs, to Rural council requirements. This minefield is yours to navigate. There will be casualties and I am yet to see someone who comes out unscathed. Some losses are acceptable, some are not but at the end of the day, the question is, do you give up or do you soldier on. Always be aware that we have unscrupulous individuals out there who are ready to do anything for a buck, especially when they hear that you are from the diaspora. So get ready for unrealistic charges and prices, outright dishonesty, unreasonable demands, passive resistance. Know when to fight, know when to give in, know when to negotiate because in the end, you will need some of these people. Always keep in mind that city politics and rural politics are on opposite ends of the spectrum. So know when to and when not to enforce your rights.
