Anne-Marie Mediwake is a household name in Canada as the co-host, news anchor of CBC News Toronto. This part Sri-Lankan, part Scottish beauty has a career that spans over a decade, where she has worked for pretty much most of the big national networks in Canada. Anne-Marie has covered some of the biggest stories, like Jack Layton's state funeral to the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. She’s also interviewed an equally varied set of personalities, like former governor general Michaëlle Jean, humanitarian Stephen Lewis, feminist Gloria Steinem and Bollywood superstar Bipasha Basu. In 2011, Anne-Marie was named the ‘GTA's Woman of the Year’ at the Consumer's Choice Awards, recognizing the trust she has earned from viewers for her commitment to journalistic excellence and her active community involvement. Before joining the CBC team, Anne-Marie co-anchored Global Television's Toronto flagship newscast as well as CTV's Gemini Award-winning investigative current affairs show 21C. In 2004, she hosted Sri Lanka A Journey Home, a network news documentary where she was given unprecedented access to the devastation of the Tsunami in her birth country. I had the opportunity to sit and chat with Anne-Marie an unlike my initial thought that this would an interview with a news media personality that would be more about current affairs and the like, I was pleasantly surprised that we chatted mostly about being working mums, orchestrating our schedules via a Google calendar, and admitting that we don’t always get it right.
