The Atari ST had some great word publishing, graphics and desktop publishing software. All designed to give you the flexibility to create outstanding documents and graphics, especially for that time. But now, it's next to impossible to print those precious works of art. Unless you have a real Atari ST and a real printer from that timeframe, you're mostly out of luck. Even if you do have an ST compatible printer, you'll be needing parts. And even if you have an old laser printer, you'll need cartridges for it. But a small utility is available to save the day. It takes files that are PCL output and converts them to PDFs. So all you have to do is get a PCL file!!!! Well, here's how to configure the two main ST emulators (STeem and Hatari) to run some of the ST software and have them write to a text file encoded as PCL. Once in that file format, the external utility reads the PCL language in the file and outputs standard PDFs. It's a little complicated to get it right, but eventually you should be able to print those old files that have just be sitting on disks, gathering dust.
