Various of march STORYLINE: Thousands of Mexicans marched in Mexico City on Saturday to protest the government of President Claudia Sheinbaum. The demonstration was first called by Generation Z, but opposition parties later urged supporters to join, bringing out more government critics than young people. The march remained mostly peaceful. But toward the end, a group of masked youths tore down police fencing around parts of the Zócalo, the capital’s main square. That triggered brief clashes, with rocks thrown at officers and tear gas fired in return. Some protesters carried black flags featuring the smiling skull-and-crossbones emblem from the Japanese manga series One Piece — a symbol adopted by many in Generation Z. But those young digital natives, part of a global wave of frustration over political elites and inequality, did not make up the majority of the crowd.
