NGSS 5-LS1-1 What Do Plants Need to Grow? Experiment Setup

In this video, I model the setup for the 5th Grade NGSS Performance Expectation 5-LS1-1: Support an argument that plants get the materials they need for growth chiefly from air and water. In this experiment, the class will set up an investigation to determine which materials plants need for growth, by taking one material away from each of 4 plants. Students will collect the height and descriptive data about the plants 3 times over 2 weeks, to come to the conclusion that plants must have sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide, and that while soil does help a plant to grow better, a plant can survive without soil.
