PFCs (Perfluorocarbons) also known as Heavy Liquids are often used adjunctive to Silicon Oil In Certain Cases Of Pars Plana Vitrectomy like RRD with GRT, Dropped IOL, Dropped Nucleus Etc. Sometimes these fluids may get trapped inside the eye due to inadequate Air-Fluid Exchange and then migrate into the AC later on. They can be clinically differentiated from Silicon Oil In the AC due to characteristics behaviors. Silicon Oil Is less dense than aqueous and Thus settles superiorly in the AC and vice versa is the case with Heavy Liquid. Silicon Oil Has a tendency of High Surface Tension so stays as a single spherule/sphere, whereas Heavy Liquids can be seen as multiple small Vesicles on top of each other. This patient presented with a High IOP and PFCL was noted in the AC, The retina was still detached which gave an idea in retrospect that it was a complicated case of Retinal Detachment which required use of PFCL, that could not be removed properly from the eye.
