Parque das Aves records world’s first birth of a Blue-eyed Ground Dove under human care

For the first time in the world, Parque das Aves has recorded the birth of a Blue-eyed Ground Dove (Columbina cyanopis) chick born from parents kept under human care. The species, listed as Critically Endangered by Brazil’s Ministry of the Environment and the IUCN, is endemic to the Brazilian Cerrado and has fewer than 20 known individuals in the wild, in Botumirim, Minas Gerais. This historic milestone is the result of coordinated scientific efforts led by Parque das Aves, SAVE Brasil, ICMBio, and international partners such as Chester Zoo, Toledo Zoo, Bronx Zoo, and the University of São Paulo.
