Saxophone instrument students, this week I share some simple alternate fingerings that will help give three notes in particular (D, C, and C#) better resonance, tone, definition, and intonation. My instructions are generic -- they will work on alto sax, baritone sax, and tenor and soprano saxophones. My setup: as per usual, I'm playing my Conn alto saxophone, a 6M from the middle 1940s. My mouthpiece and ligature are Meyer Brothers, a 5MM, and the reed for this session is a Rico Jazz Select 2.5 Want affordable expert saxophone coaching on YOUR time schedule? I can do that. I’ve started offering online coaching, where you send me recordings of whatever it is you are working on, and I text back a personalized critique. Hence the name Text and Tune. Would you be interested in trying a free first assignment so you can see how it works for you? I’m new at handling lessons in this manner, but I like the idea – first of all, it zeroes out the time zone issue. Many of you live around the globe and are just getting up right about the time we are hitting the sack here in America. What I’m suggesting is that you record something you are currently working on, whether it’s a song, a solo, some form of workbook study, tone issues, whatever. Then, upload the file to a YouTube channel that you create. Don’t worry, you can keep the file private so that only you and I can see it. An alternative to YouTube is Google Drive. Both are very simple and user-friendly. Those are the only two online platforms that I am working with at present. I like them because I’ve used both in the past and have found them to be trouble-free. When you’ve uploaded your file, send me an email with a link to your sound file. I will download, listen, and text/email you a written critique with some assignment work that I think will be specific to your needs. If you decide to continue working with me in this “Text and Tune” format, I will charge a reasonable fee of $19 USD, payable in advance via Venmo for every upload that you want me to critique. Questions? [email protected] See you next week. If you'd benefit from more of the same, please subscribe, and if today's session helped, hit that love button.
