Monster Trash Compactor (Stowe Dump)

Very large trash compactor installed in Stowe, Vermont. This compactor has been here operating daily for over 30 years with little to no downtime (at over 15 tons of trash/day). This machine has an approx 74" by 90" mouth. It is powered by a 30HP electric motor running a 3000psi hydraulic compressor (manually-controlled). Basically, if the 'blade' can get a bite, it'll eat it . All the 'blade' is, is a 2" thick steel plate box just under 3 feet tall that merely slides back and forth being pushed by two 8.5' long cylinders (7" shaft thickness) mounted above one another, that pushes all material into the back end of an aluminum walking-floor trailer. When that trailer begins to get full (physically) the fun begins. The blade-box will move/displace 4.84 cubic yards of material per pass. The hopper will hold 9.12 cubic yards (not counting blade displacement) for a total of 13.96 cubic yards of holding capacity with a fully retracted blade. This video is of an almost empty trailer (maybe 7 tons onboard) thus, not much actual compaction. We stop the trailers at about 23 tons, to make them road-legal. More to come!
