📌 Useful Tips (not mentioned in the video) 1. Catching Rabbits? 🐇 → This isn’t something I made up, and it's a real Korean expression! 😁 In Korean, instead of "catching birds" as in the English phrase "catch two birds with one stone," we often say "catching rabbits." 🐇 Of course, we do use the hanja proverb 일석이조 (一石二鳥) that means "one(일) stone(석), two(이) birds(조)," but in native Korean, 토끼 (rabbits) is more frequently used. 2. Speech Levels in the Conversation → Both the professor and student use 존댓말 (polite speech) in this conversation. But if you listen closely, you’ll notice that the student speaks more respectfully and uses honorific verbs like -(으)시다 and 드리다 often. In contrast, the professor never uses these forms. When creating this dialogue, I imagined about a 20-year age gap between them. In real life, it would sound unnatural for someone much older, like the professor, to use overly formal speech with a student. (This shows how, even within the same 존댓말, the use or omission of honorific verbs can make the speech sound simpler or more respectful.) 🔗 If you’d like to learn more about honorific verbs, you can watch this class: • Korean Honorific Verbs: -(으)세요, -(으)시다 | ... 3. Is This Video Too Difficult for Beginners? → This content is ideal for intermediate learners, but even beginners can benefit!
