Cameras are a must—this city was made to be photographed. For us, Dubrovnik was the grand finale of our Croatia adventure, and it delivered thousands of steps, iconic views, and unforgettable moments. 🚶♂️🏰 Exploring Dubrovnik’s Old Town Starting the Day with Epic Views: Each morning began with a climb—440 steps—from our apartment to the Old Town, rewarding us with panoramic cityscapes and postcard-worthy vistas. Entering through Ploće Gate: We began our journey at the east end of the walled city, walking straight into history and beauty. Photo & Video Heaven: With every turn, Dubrovnik’s charm shines. Sam was in his element, capturing the city from every angle. ⛵🌅 Strolling the Old Port & Meeting Local Cats Old Port Adventure: Our first stop was a peaceful stroll along the Old Port, watching boats, soaking in the sun, and meeting Dubrovnik’s famous cats—including a daring acrobat who almost leapt into the sea! ⛪ Dubrovnik Cathedral & Historic Landmarks Dubrovnik Cathedral: With a history of expansions, this beautiful church was even rebuilt with funds from King Richard the Lionheart. Gundulić Square: Time for a snack! We sampled traditional Croatian treats—candied orange peel, dried figs, and almonds—from local vendors for just 3 Euros. Big Onofrio Fountain: Built in 1438, this iconic public fountain serves up cool, refreshing spring water from 12km away—a must-visit for thirsty explorers. 🏛️ Ancient Monasteries & Old Pharmacies Franciscan Monastery Pharmacy: Founded in 1317, this is one of the oldest functioning pharmacies in the world. We browsed centuries-old medical books and enjoyed the peaceful cloisters, with citrus trees and stunning architecture. 🏛️ Rector’s Palace (Knežev dvor) While renovations kept us out, the Rector’s Palace is a top Dubrovnik attraction, steeped in political and architectural history—now open to the public! 🐾 Dubrovnik’s Friendly Felines Cats are everywhere—say hi to a few local meowsies for a true Dubrovnik experience! 🚤 Boat Tours & Spectacular Vistas Panorama Excursion: Early morning boat rides from the Old Port around Lokrum Island offer next-level views of Dubrovnik’s cityscape—don’t miss it! 🍕 Savoring Dalmatian & Seafood Pizza Lunch at Mea Culpa: We feasted on Dalmatian and Seafood pizzas—think cherry tomatoes, prosciutto, black olives, sausage, eggs, and mounds of cheese. Croatian pizza is a hidden gem, rivaling the best outside of Italy! 🏯 Walking Dubrovnik’s Ancient City Walls Dubrovnik City Walls: The highlight of any trip! For 150 kuna (about $20 USD), we walked the 2km city walls—first built in the 9th century and reinforced in the 14th—offering sweeping views at every turn. Give yourself extra time to soak in the scenery and take photos. Refreshment stands are available. Travel Tip: Some sections have low walls—those afraid of heights, take caution! 🍦 Gelato Break After a sun-soaked walk, treat yourself to gelato—we tried strawberry, crème caramel, and pistachio for just 10 kuna per scoop. 🏰 Fort Lovrijenac (St. Lawrence Fortress) Perched 37 meters above the sea, this fortress offers the best views of Old Dubrovnik and the Adriatic. Fun fact: Locals built it in just three months to thwart Venetian plans!
