In this video, we demonstrate how to detect and analyze monthly precipitation anomalies using the CHIRPS daily rainfall dataset over a large study area in Southeast Asia. The workflow begins with defining an Area of Interest (AOI) and filtering CHIRPS data for a specified time period (2000–2020). We use a custom function to aggregate daily rainfall into monthly totals, producing 240 monthly precipitation layers across 20 years. We visualize the results using an interactive time series chart to explore how precipitation anomalies evolved over two decades. The tutorial also demonstrates how to extract and export anomaly data for a specific year—in this case, 2010—by converting the 12 monthly images into a multi-band raster for further analysis or storage in Google Drive.
