In attempting to use “so-called women’s issues” against the Prime Minister, the Labor Party is “stereotyping women” on the basis of gender, according to Sky News host Peta Credlin. Her comments come after former MP Julia Banks accused Prime Minister Scott Morrison of bully-boy behaviour and running an office that seeks to discredit outspoken women, ahead of the release of her memoir. Ms Banks has also said she was the victim of sexual harassment by a cabinet minister. According to Ms Credlin, the Labor Party and Ms Banks are pushing a “false narrative” about PM Morrison having a “problem with women”. “There are two immediate problems with Labor’s pile-on yesterday and again today about women, the Prime Minister, and the Liberal Party,” she said. “First, it’s very selective, and second, it’s hard to take Banks at face value.” Ms Credlin noted that the instance which Ms Banks gives for her alleged sexual assault “happened on Malcolm Turnbull’s watch, not Scott Morrison’s”. “If she really was assaulted as she claims, why didn’t she take it to the police rather than to the ABC on a bookselling tour years after the event? “She says she didn’t because she wasn’t fearless enough. It is a shame then that this ends up with the worst possible outcome for her former party – either a bad guy is still on the loose in Parliament House or a whole lot of decent men implicated with no way for any of them to clear their name.” Ms Credlin said there is an “even bigger problem here” which “says much more about the Labor Party than about Scott Morrison”. “In trying to use so-called women’s issues against the PM, Labor is stereotyping women on the basis of our gender,” she said.
