There is nothing like seeing hundreds of running cars from the early 1900's. This annual event features privately owned vintage cars all in one place. This was the 73rd annual old car festival and it was great. One of the fun things you can watch is the Canadian team of people who completely assemble a Model T from parts in 3 minutes! This includes adding water to the radiator, oil in the engine and gas in the tank. Then they hand crank the engine to start it. They also show you how some people could shut off the engine and then turn the key on and the engine would start on it's own. Most of the cars there are brought there by their owners and many dress in period garb. All participants are allowed to drive their cars all over the grounds and there are also races and games for the cars. One involves racing a hundred feet and driving over balloons on the ground to pop them with their tires. You have no idea how hard that is in a Model T. If you are ever in the Dearborn, Michigan area, a visit to Greenfield Village is a must see. You can also buy a ride ticket and ride on a train pulled by steam locomotives. The ride ticket also lets you take a ride in a Ford Model T, the carrousel, an old bus and other vintage vehicles. In addition, there are many historic buildings like Thomas Edison's workshop, live glass making and more with working displays that you can go inside. There's even Firestone's farm house and working farm. You can go inside the farm house and see real food being prepared for the farm workers using a coal fired stove.
