Sometimes, parents aren’t sure where to begin after learning their child is deaf or hard of hearing. If you start with your dreams for your child, the roadmap for the journey ahead becomes much clearer. Think about all you want them to be able to do and accomplish throughout their life. Listening and Spoken Language (LSL) offers a proven path to make those dreams possible. When Zach’s parents learned he was profoundly deaf, they didn’t know what that would mean for their family. They considered their dreams for Zach and all the activities, professions, and relationships they hoped would be available to him in the future. They decided following the LSL path would give him the best chance of achieving them. His parents were persistent in getting him hearing aids as a baby and providing him with a language-rich environment at home. Now, between football practice, refereeing basketball games at the YMCA, and maintaining excellent grades at his mainstream high school, Zach doesn’t have time to think about his profound hearing loss.
