In the recent years the electronic image stabilization with phones is getting better and better – but no matter how good it is, there are certain shakes that can never be compensated, and certain movements that you can’t execute hand-held. Today we review the iSteady Mobile PLUS. We start with the hardware – and here’s what to expect from the unboxing. The device is called “mobile plus” – and it is indeed an upgrade to last year’s model. Much newer and improved in many compartments – and in fact quite close to functions of much more expensive devices. A must have in my opinion – such a protective case. It is meaningless to explain why – and seeing that it is a hard case – the satisfaction goes even higher. The motor’s freedom is limited to 320 degrees for rolling and tilting, and panning goes up to 600 degrees. Meaning that the inception feature advertised is not unlimited – it is possible to do a little less than two complete cycles, but even with one you may get enough of headache. This feature was made popular by DJI with their Ronin model, and was then adopted by many others. The power button, besides used for on and off – also acts as a shutter button. Short press for a photo, double press for start recording a video – if you are connected to the smartphone app. The slider on the left is for zoom in and out, and the joystick – to adjust the direction. Two LEDs are available – one on the left for Bluetooth indication, and the right one blinks in green and shows the current mode. The major part of the fun is done with the smartphone app – which is a different app from the last year’s generation, but keeps most of the features. It is called “Hohem gimbal” – and the connection to the gimbal is established in a very easy way – enable Bluetooth, select the model – and you are in. Of course – there is portrait mode, and also a feature, embedded in the app for online streaming – and just think about the possibilities, combined with the tracking feature or the motion features. Something which is supported, but I couldn’t test yet – the iSteady mobile pro supports a Bluetooth remote – so imagine how great it would be to stream online, and if you are not that close to the gimbal – to adjust the angle with a remote. What more can we ask for from a budget gimbal?! Price on the official website – $89, found it on Tomtop for 69. And is just below $100 on amazon. That’s my new absolute favorite from the budget gimbals. And I am officially ditching the smooth Q in favor of that.
