2023 졸업작품: 일렁이는 것들(현유정) 영상, 사이아노타입, 반다이크 브라운 프린트 기획의도: 2022년 1월부터 8월까지 8개월간 교환학생으로 이탈리아 베니스에서 생활하게 되었다. 물의 도시로 불리는 베니스는 120여 개의 섬으로 구성되어 있으며, 섬과 섬이 둥근 다리로 연결되어 모든 운송수단이 배(선박)로 이루어져 있다. 베니스의 모든 것은 Barca, Barchino, Gondola, Topo로 불리는 수단을 통해 이동하며 심지어 경찰과 소방관 또한 차가 아닌 수상 배를 이용한다. 본인은 영상매체를 통해 보트가 싣고 나르는 베니스의 모습과 이야기를 담고자 하였고, 이를 ‘일렁이는 것들’ 이라고 표현하고자 했다. 배와 베니스인들의 운명적인 삶, 바다의 물결이 일렁이는 순간을 포착하여 영상으로 담고자 하였다. 이와 더불어, 19세기에 발명된 고전사진인화기법으로 실험적인 표현 기법을 활용한 사이아노 타입(Cyanotype), 반다이크 브라운 프린트(Vandyke Brown)를 영상에 접목하였다. 위 표현기법은 독특한 색감과 표현이 특징으로, 수작업의 즉흥성과 우연성은 사진이라는 매체에 개성을 더해주고 깊은 여운을 담아낸다. 두 기법은 직사광선에 노출된 후, 이미지가 입혀진 종이를 흐르는 물에 씻음으로써 완성이 되는 과정의 공통점을 가지는데 이는 햇빛이 강하고 바다로 둘러싸여진 이탈리아 베니스와 베니스인들의 삶과 닮아있었다. 2023 Graduation Project: Waving Waves (YUJEONG HYUN) Video, Cyanotype, Vandyke Brown Print Concept: From January to August 2022, I spent eight months living in Venice, Italy, as an exchange student. Venice, known as the "City of Water," is composed of over 120 islands connected by arched bridges, and all transportation is conducted by boats. Everything in Venice moves via means called Barca, Barchino, Gondola, and Topo, even the police and firefighters use watercraft instead of cars. Through video media, I aimed to capture the sights and stories of Venice as carried by boats, which I expressed as "Waving Waves." I sought to capture the fateful lives of boats and Venetians, as well as the moments when the sea waves ripple, in a video format. Additionally, I incorporated experimental expression techniques using Cyanotype and Vandyke Brown, classic photographic printing methods invented in the 19th century, into the video. These techniques are characterized by unique colors and expressions, with the spontaneity and chance of manual work adding individuality and deep resonance to the medium of photography. Both techniques share the commonality of being completed by washing the image-bearing paper with running water after exposure to direct sunlight, resembling the sunlit and water-surrounded lives of Venetians in Venice.
