Having been in practice in St. Paul for 20 years, I've now worked with three generations from one family. And I do feel that I am sort of a - even though I'm a sports medicine specialist, I'm a primary care physician when it comes to the musculoskeletal system. I want my patients to have best possible result. But I want to educate them in the process. And I think it's important to take the time to educate them so that they understand what the potential outcomes would be, whether we go nonoperatively or operatively. I think the question that I hear most often from my patients is, "When am I going to be back to normal?" And unfortunately, we can't always be back to normal after a serious injury. But I think, for the most part, we can give people hope and get them back to a high level of function in a relatively fast period of time. My family has experienced a number of medical problems with respect to both my parents and my children. And fortunately, everything has turned out for the best. But I've experienced the anxiety and the fear that you would have with a family member who's in dire need of help. And I would like to do the best I could do - kind of smooth that out for any of my patients, to kind of allay any concerns that they might have.
