#mazda3 #2025mazda3 #skyactiv In a world of SUVs, EVs & mostly automatic new cars, the Mazda3 is refreshingly familiar! The 3 was launched in 2019 and has received a few tweaks over the past couple of years, in 2023/24 receiving the larger infotainment screen + new trim lineup & now for the 2025 model year, Mazda have tweaked the engine lineup, as before coming with mild-hybrid tech as standard, but now featuring a 2.5L e-SkyActiv G engine, or optionally (As tested) the more powerful & unchanged e-SkyActiv X engine. I tested the top-spec 'Takumi' trim with the e-SkyActiv X engine, paired with the slick 6-speed manual transmission. Although the 3 is not turbo-charged, it provides an engaging driving experience and a very satisfying shift! Mazda has kept options and trims rather streamlined, no doubt helping to keep the price tag very competitive, in fact it has not changed by much compared to other manufacturers since this model's release in 2019. The Mazda3 has not seen a big change in styling either, however I think it has aged incredibly well, with the addition of new colours and the standard sporty black grille, keeping it up to date with competitors. Personally I own a MK7.5 VW Golf & recently started leasing a MK8 Golf to start driving tuition, it was interesting to gauge the Mazda against these 2 popular 'benchmark' hatchbacks. Whilst the Golfs win on practicality, I found generally the Mazda3 to be more interesting to drive & feel more driver focused. I do prefer the seats in the VWs though & the slightly suppler ride, however the 3 did offer better cornering ability & a slightly more planted feel. Practicality & visibility are the negatives of the Mazda3, however in my everyday driving these few downsides wouldn't be a dealbreaker. For those looking for more space, the CX-30 offers that, whilst being based on the 3 & sharing much of its characteristics. What do you think of the Mazda3? Let me know in the comments!
