A Like New, Old Stock, Athearn HO scale Santa Fe (ATSF - Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway) FP-45 DC Powered Diesel Engine Locomotive is under consignment and up for sale at ShowMyHobby.. This very heavy locomotive has been test run by me for about an hour. It operates on 18" radius curves. In this video, the couplers, handrails, and other accessories have not been applied, but are included in the original Athearn Blue Box for this locomotive. The locomotive features 12 Metal Medium Flange Wheels (mMFW) on plastic trucks, Hornhook couplers, crisp printing on a good paint job. This EMD FP45 was originally a passenger locomotive designed to be used to pull a string of passenger cars. It wears the Santa Fe Warbonnet Red, Silver, and Yellow/Gold paint scheme that was created for the Super Chief passenger trains in 1937. The ATSF operated 9 EMD FP45 locomotives (road numbers 100-108) primarily to head the Super Chief and El Capitan passenger trains from 1967 to April 1971. Following the inception of Amtrak, these locomotives were reassigned to freight service, though some saw occasional passenger usage, with the fleet largely retired or sold by the BNSF merger in 1995-1998. This particular unit was originally delivered as locomotive #100, but it was renumbered around 1971 as road number #5940 when it was used for freight service. It would be rebuilt and renumbered again between 1980 and 1982 to become road number 5990. The consignor also consigned 2 Bachmann Santa Fe 85' Full Dome cars, but those 2 cars have already been sold. This video was recorded on 12-13-2022.
