He was a senior political leader and had represented the Bari–Derabish Assembly constituency in the Odisha Legislative Assembly. Kulamani Raut had contested the 1990 Assembly election on a Congress ticket and emerged victorious. Following his demise, his mortal remains were taken in the evening to his ancestral village Shankarpur, under Kurujanga Panchayat of Derabish Block, for final rites.
