Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has accused the United States of using coercive methods to pressure India and other key partners into reducing purchases of Russian oil. Speaking to TV BRICS, Lavrov alleged Washington is interfering in Russia’s trade and military ties through sanctions, tariffs and restrictions aimed at weakening Moscow’s global partnerships, including within BRICS. India, however, has rejected suggestions of external influence. Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said oil imports are decided independently based on national interest and market conditions. The Ministry of External Affairs reiterated that ensuring energy security for 1.4 billion people remains India’s top priority.
