It is said that Joan Crawford was “the queen of thank you notes”. The website Legendary Joan Crawford estimates she sent over three million fan letters during her career. Another fan site quotes Crawford as saying she wrote 10,000 to 12,000 letters a month. My dim recollection from reading a biography is that she was so meticulous that she sent thank you notes to people who sent thank you notes. Talk about dedication. At my best, I would send thank you notes on monogrammed stationery. I do still say thank you to a waitperson or when someone holds the door. I try to remember to express thanks as my head hits the pillow and when I awake. Our beloved Nancy always ends our weekly enews calls, or any written communication, with some form of “thank you” (usually, thank you kindly); she actively practices gratitude. Imagine being Jesus amongst a crowd of people, healing ten lepers, and only one says, “Thank you, Lord.” Is there a sense of entitlement?
