Sankhkare Mentuhotep III, a Pharaoh of the 11th Dynasty, ascended the throne of Egypt around 2010 BC, inheriting a prosperous and stable nation from his predecessor and presumed father, Mentuhotep II. His reign, though brief at approximately 12 years as noted in the Turin Canon, was marked by significant achievements that underscored his effective leadership and vision. Mentuhotep III’s throne name, "Sankhkare," meaning "Giving Life to the Soul of Re," reflected his deep connection to the divine and religious aspects of his rule. He continued the tradition of his dynasty in venerating the god Montu, as his name, "Mentuhotep," meaning "The god Montu is Content," indicates. Despite the limited information about his family, it is believed that his mother was Queen Tem, adding to his legitimate claim to the throne.
