Birchbox editor Lorelei shares her 5 things to try for October 2014, from Halloween pumpkin decorations to a new recipe for apple pie. October kicks off the season for decorating pumpkins, indulging your spooky side, and eating as much as apple pie as your stomach can hold. Watch our video for ideas on how to get into the Halloween spirit, decorate pumpkins the Birchbox way (hint: it involves glitter), and use all those mason jars you’ve been stockpiling (yep, we’re talking individual apple pies—we’ll take five). Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Step 2. Roll out the frozen crust. Step 3. Use the mouth of a jar to cut out eight circles. Place one circle at the bottom of each jar and gently press up the sides. Step 4. Mix filling ingredients together in a large bowl. Step 4. Add apple filling all the way to the top of the jar and pack in tightly. This will cook down during baking. Step 5. Add the second crust circle on top of the filling in each jar. Lightly brush the top with beaten egg. Step 6. Place the baking sheet on the middle rack of the preheated oven. (This will catch any overflow during baking.) Place the four filled mason jars on the baking sheet and bake for about 30 minutes. Find us elsewhere!
