CIA Officers in Disguise Filmed In Moscow. Surveillance footage captured a CIA officer’s dramatic change in disguise in 2015. The footage was released by Russian media outlets claiming to show two American women, Janice and Laura, leaving the US embassy and heading to a nearby cafe. Janice, the African-American woman, enters the restroom... but never comes out. Minutes later, a heavyset middle-aged Caucasian man exits the bathroom and walks out into the street. Russian media claims the middle-aged man is actually Timothy, a young CIA case officer assigned to the US Embassy. Laura immediately enters the bathroom herself and appears to retrieve a large bundle of clothing from inside. The clothing is likely outerwear, wig, and facemask all worn by Timothy when he portrayed Janice. Note that Janice wore a bright orange overcoat, blue boots, and carried a pink handbag; all of which would have been zeroed in on by the FSB surveillance team. These vivid items also potentially draw attention away from a facemask. When Laura exits the bathroom there are no bright colors to be seen in the clothing bundle she carries, indicating it was likely a reversible overcoat covering up the other items to further confuse their FSB monitors. While it would be a mistake to take virtually anything in Russian state-sponsored media outlets at face value, the CIA has an extensive, well-documented history of using incredible disguise techniques in high threat environments, going back more than 40 years. Legendary CIA officers including Tony Mendez, Jonna Mendez, and Michael Sellers all worked in Moscow previously and went to tremendous lengths to disguise both themselves and their operational acts going back to at least the early 1980s.
