“Ghost Arms” for marimba and voice, composed by Ivan Trevino. This solo is featured in Trevino’s “Song Book Vol. 2 For the Singing Marimbist”. Trevino writes: “This is a song about a boy, a girl, love and death. Long drive, leaving her behind him, underneath the writing where it spells her name, She reaches out to hold him with her ghost arms, but he can’t feel her next to him. She cries out, “love”, but he can’t hear her next to him. Long night, tossing, turning in his bed, she ain’t lying next to him. All he needs is her to wipe his tears away. Her ghost arms, they hold him, they hold him.” I recorded this performance for my music fraternity Delta Omicron a week before my senior recital at UW-Whitewater. I have had the opportunity to perform this piece in both my senior recital on March 6th, 2021, as well as at the Maxwell Street Days Festival on August 7th, 2021 in Whitewater, WI. I first heard this piece when I saw Ivan Trevino and his group “The Big Trouble” perform a trio version at PASIC 2018 in Indianapolis, IN, and have wanted to learn and perform it ever since. This video was recorded on February 27th, 2021, in the UW-Whitewater Percussion Studio. The mallets I am using are 2 IP 275s in my right hand, and 2 IP 240s in my left hand. I hope you enjoy!
