WATCH LIVE: US Senate LIVE: Senators vote down bills to fund the government again | Senate Republicans | CNBC TV18 The Senate voted 51 to 45 not to take up the House-passed G.O.P. stopgap bill, as Democrats moved for the 10th time to block the Republican legislation to reopen the government. The Senate is expected to vote on the Republicans’ stopgap funding bill today after it failed to advance again yesterday. The divide in the chamber seems to be growing, with GOP Sen. John Kennedy predicting the shutdown could be the longest ever if Democrats stand by their health care-related demands. The Senate will vote today for a 10th time on the House GOP's short-term government spending bill, which is once again expected to fail. After that, the chamber will take a procedural vote on a bill to fund the Defense Department — a key test of whether Democrats want to block even normal appropriations to get negotiations on an extension of Obamacare subsidies started. Senate Majority Leader John Thune said he told Democrats he could guarantee a vote on Affordable Care Act subsidies by a certain date, adding that “at some point Democrats have to take yes for an answer” to end the government shutdown. In an interview with MSNBC’s Ali Vitali, Thune repeated that Republicans are “willing to have the conversation” about health care but that discussions about Obamacare premium subsidies need “to happen in a separate context.” If the procedural motion is approved, the Senate could pass the bill in the coming weeks, and if the House were also to pass the same version and Trump to sign it into law, the lapse in military pay during the government shutdown would cease to be an issue in negotiations to restart the government. The Senate is expected to leave town for the weekend after the votes, meaning the government shutdown will likely last until Monday. #usgovernment #ussenate #TRUMP #democrats #uspolitics #mikejohnson #johnthune #cnbctv18
