The Tartan Tunes show duo of Scottish musicians Peter Wood from Shetland on accordion and Davie Hunter from Dundee on Scottish Smallpipes. This talented duo are playing traditional 9/8 Marches "The Battle of the Somme" and "Heights of Dargai". You can catch their regular show of Tartan Tunes on their Youtube page here: / @tartantunestheshow The Scottish smallpipe, in its modern form, is a bellows-blown bagpipe re-developed by Colin Ross and many others. The innovations leading to the modern instrument, in particular the design of the reeds, were largely taken from the Northumbrian smallpipes. While there is evidence of small pipes dating back to 15th century, in its current form it is perhaps the youngest bagpipe with any popularity, having only existed in this form since the early 1980s.
