The A6GCS / 53 was a two-seater racing car built by Maserati from 1953 to 1955. The car has a 2-liter, 170 BHP engine which reaches 7,300 rpm. The bore and stroke were respectively 76.5 and 72 mm. The body was the work of Medardo Fantuzzi, and was derived from the one installed on the previous model: the A6 GCS. The engine is a six-cylinder in-line and had a compression ratio of 8.75: 1. The top speed of the car was 235 km/h. 54 specimens were manufactured and four engines. Nine of these complete models were exported to the United States. The A6GCS / 53 was a model of success in competitions and won several races; debuted in 1953 at the Mille Miglia. In 1953 and in 1954 Luigi Musso won the Italian championship 2 liter sports and, again in 1954, the Targa Florio and the Tour of Sicily. In 1955 the pilot Maria Teresa de Filippis came second in the Italian league. The car also has prevailed in international competitions; Luigi Musso and Sergio Mantovani conquered the Irish Tourist Trophy of 1954, while Benoit Musym won the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps and Emanuel de Graffenried Toulo on Interlagos Circuit.
