Gastric Imbrication Surgery by Dr. Nandakishore Dukkipati
Gastric Imbrication is a simple laparoscopic surgery which takes less than one hour to perform. It also requires only a maximum of one night stay at the hospital. This weight loss surgery is similar to gastric sleeve. In this the greater curvature of the stomach i.e. the left side of the stomach is folded upon itself and sutured in two layers. By doing so, the larger stomach is converted into a narrow tube without cutting the stomach. Unlike gastric sleeve, in this weight loss procedure, the entire size of the stomach remains intact. This means that the intrinsic factor deficiency will not occur in this bariatric surgery procedure. It is however slightly less effective compared to gastric sleeve procedure.
