GWR Class 255 Castle Sets Tuesday 27th and Wednesday 28th May 2025

Riding around on the Great Western Railway Class 255 Castle Sets (ex HST sets) through Devon and Cornwall. We start on Tuesday 27th May in a wet Exeter St Davids to meet the arrival of GW06 set with 43189 and 43098 whilst working 2E06 07:45 Penzance to Exeter St Davids. The set then works back as 2C20 11:27 Exeter St Davids to Penzance which we rode all the way. We then walked up the walk the promenade towards Marazion stopping to film the same set again depart back to Plymouth on 2P20 15:15 departure. Once back at Penzance station we waited for the arrival of GW08 set lead by power car 43186 and a rather noisy 43156 whilst they worked 2C26 13:40 from Plymouth, we rode this train back. Wednesday 28th July, we made our way to Dawlish so we could film GW08 set 43186 and 43156 working 2E06 09:42 Plymouth to Exeter St Davids, the train started at Plymouth because the set had been used in the early hours to rescue the sleeper service from Exeter. We picked up the same set on the return working 2C20 11:27 Exeter St Davids to Penzance, however this time we jumped off at Plymouth. After a chaotic hour because of late running from London, we jumped on GW09 set which had the colourful power cars 43187 and 43093 on 2C26 13:40 Plymouth to Penzance as far as Liskeard, when transferred back to Plymouth on GW06 set with power cars 43098 and 43189 working 2P16 13:15 Penzance to Plymouth.
