A perfect mix of luxury, performance, and that signature inline-6 turbo sound. But here’s the thing… buy the wrong one, and it can turn into a nightmare of endless repairs and costly headaches. In this video, I’ll break down exactly which ones to go for and which ones to avoid—so you can enjoy top-down driving without regret. 5 AWESOME things about the 335i 1. Turbocharged Power & Performance 💨 Powered by the N54 (2007-2010) or N55 (2011-2013) 3.0L turbocharged inline-6, 300 hp & 300 lb-ft Tuners love it!!! Easily pushes 400+ hp with basic mods. 0-60 mph in around 5 seconds—faster than many sports cars of its time. 2. Hardtop Convertible Magic 🏎️🔄 3. Timeless BMW Design 🔥 One of the best-looking 3 Series ever made, sporty yet elegant. M-Sport package makes it even better! 4. Driver’s Car Feel 🏁 5. A Great Value in 2024 💰 Prices are still reasonable. Offers M3-like performance at a fraction of the cost. [Issues] 1. High-Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP) Failure Cause: The HPFP wears out prematurely, leading to inconsistent fuel delivery. Symptoms: Long crank times or failure to start. Engine misfires, hesitation, or rough idling. Check Engine Light (CEL) with fuel system codes. 2. Water Pump and Thermostat Failure Cause: The electric water pump fails prematurely due to overheating or electrical issues. Symptoms: Engine overheating warning on iDrive. Reduced engine power or limp mode. Loud fan noise from the engine bay. 3. Valve Cover and Valve Cover Gasket Leaks Cause: The plastic valve cover becomes brittle over time, and the gasket deteriorates. Symptoms: Burning oil smell, especially with the top down. Visible oil leaks near the valve cover. Engine running rough due to vacuum leaks. 4. Oil Filter Housing Gasket Leak Cause: The rubber gasket breaks down due to heat and oil exposure. Symptoms: Oil leaks near the front of the engine. Low oil levels over time. Possible contamination of coolant with oil. 5. Wastegate Rattle (Turbocharger Issue) Cause: The wastegate actuator wears out, causing a loose wastegate flap. Symptoms: Rattling noise from the turbo area, especially during cold starts. Boost loss and sluggish acceleration. Check Engine Light with underboost codes (30FF). 6. Carbon Buildup on Intake Valves (Direct Injection Issue) Cause: The N55 engine uses direct fuel injection, which leads to carbon buildup on intake valves over time. Symptoms: Rough idle and hesitation. Loss of power, especially in the mid-range RPMs. Misfires (especially on cold starts). 7. Convertible Top Hydraulic Leaks & Malfunctions Cause: Hydraulic fluid leaks from the convertible top system, or electrical components fail. Symptoms: Convertible top gets stuck halfway or doesn’t operate. Hydraulic fluid leaks near the trunk area. Error messages in iDrive related to the top mechanism. 8. Charge Pipe Failure Cause: The factory plastic charge pipe becomes brittle and cracks under boost. Symptoms: Sudden loss of power and boost. Hissing or "whooshing" sound under acceleration. Check Engine Light with boost leak codes (30FF, P0299). 9. HID leveler Cause: The ride height sensors mounted on the front and rear suspension arms can fail due to wear, water damage, or corrosion. Symptoms: Headlights stay too high or too low. Adaptive headlights stop adjusting while driving. Dashboard warning lights or error codes for headlight leveling. 10. Recalls: The best option to find out recall information is to go to your manufacturer’s website link below https://my.bmwusa.com/safety-and-emis... In the U.S., you can also visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The link is also included below. https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls For either option, enter the vehicle’s 17 character VIN # and this will provide you with a list of recalls for the vehicle you are looking into.
