What is the Difference Between South America and Latin America?

What is the difference between South America and Latin America? The year 1492 and the name Christopher Columbus, and the year 1502 and the name Amerigo Vespucci, what image do they draw? The former was the year Columbus reached terra firma in the Caribbean with the thought that he had found a shortcut to Asia while the latter was when Vespucci realized that the place was a New World for Europeans. In honor of this great explorer and his feat, the larger area of what we know today as the Western Hemisphere was named after him. That was how the name America came to be. But today, people have trouble sorting the Americas. The terms, South America and Latin America have been used in many contexts and instances. However, many who hear these couldn’t figure out exactly what these mean. Therefore, in this video, we shall attempt to answer the question, what is the difference between South America and Latin America? The name America, as a tribute to Amerigo Vespucci, was used to refer originally only to the southern portion of the area known as the New World. However, in time the designation came to apply to the whole landmass. So now, which one is South America, and which one is Latin? South America can be explained as describing those portions of the New World bounded by the Caribbean Sea to the north and northwest, the Atlantic Ocean to the northeast, southeast, and east, and the Pacific Ocean to the west. Now, to the north is the area known as North America, that is, the landmass widening out north of the narrow land bridging the Isthmus of Panama. South America is separated from Antarctica by the Drake Passage, south of Cape Horn. That may not be quite clear as some people have drawn the map of North America to begin at the Isthmus of Tehuantepec and not the Isthmus of Panama. According to those authorities, the region between the two points is Central America. Going by that, however, some parts of Mexico would fall under Central America whereas the country actually lies in North America. To care for this, the geographical grouping "Latin America" became more plausible. This becomes the description comprising the total area covering the entire of Mexico and Central and South American countries. Then, the United States of America and Canada can be referred to as Anglo-America. As a more definitive description, Latin America includes the parts of North America and South America where Romance languages are spoken. This will then include the south of the United States and the Islands of the Caribbean.
