Welcome back to HUNTED Majdanek was a German Nazi concentration camp that was created on the outskirts of the city of Lublin throughout the German occupation of Poland. Although initially it was intended to endorse forced labor rather than for extermination, the camp was still used to kill people. This was so it cold contribute to the German plan to murder all Jews within their General Government territory of Poland. The camp, which was in use from the 1st of October, 1941 until the 22nd of July , 1944, was liberated nearly intact. To date Majdanek, also known to the SS as Konzentrationslager Lublin, remains the most well preserved Nazi concentration camp of the Holocaust. For some time, the camp was run by commander Karl Koch. However, Koch commanded the Majdanek camp for only one year; he was relieved from his duties after 86 Soviet prisoners of wars escaped and fled from the camp in August 1942.
