2x Maserati 6CM Single Seater HGPCA Historic Grand Prix Cars at Nürburgring 2025 - Straight-6 Engine

We were at the Nürburgring for the 52nd Belmot Oldtimer Grand Prix 2025, and the cars competed in the "HGPCA Front Engine Cars" category. The silver 1938 model, chassis 1561, was driven by German driver Markus Neisius, while the red one, also from 1938, chassis 1552, was driven by Stephan Rettenmaier. These are pretty rare models, with only 27 built from 1936 to 1939. The red car began racing in its very first year. It was owned by American Harry W. "Cotton" Henning, chief mechanic for the Boyle Racing Team, who entered it in the Indianapolis race with Mauri Rose at the wheel, where it finished thirteenth overall. The most prestigious result, however, was achieved on May 14, 1939, with Italian driver Luigi Villoresi at the wheel, who took first place overall at the Targa Florio. The 6CM acronym stands for 6-cylinder single-seater, and when 1.5-litre supercharged engines were admitted to the "Voiturette" class, Maserati developed the 6CM to replace the 4CM. This model was an immediate success, becoming virtually unbeatable. The supercharged six-cylinder in-line engine had a maximum power of 175 hp, and thanks to the single-seater's weight of just 650 kg, performance was exceptional. In the hands of Italian driver Carlo Felice "Didi" Trossi, the Maserati 6CM, chassis number 1532, won four of the five races it entered in 1938 and finished second in the fifth. Ci troviamo sul circuito del Nürburgring per il 52° Belmot Oldtimer Grand Prix 2025 e le vetture hanno gareggiato nella categoria "HGPCA Front Engine Cars". L'esemplare color argento del 1938, telaio 1561, è stato guidato dal pilota tedesco Markus Neisius mentre quello rosso, anche questo del 1938, telaio 1552, è stato portato in gara da Stephan Rettenmaier. Sono modelli piuttosto rari da vedere, ne sono stati costruiti solo 27 dal 1936 al 1939. La vettura rossa iniziò a gareggiare già dal suo primo anno ed ebbe come proprietario l'americano Harry W. “Cotton” Henning, capo meccanico del Boyle Racing Team che la schierò in gara ad Indianapolis guidata da Mauri Rose dove ottiene il tredicesimo posto assoluto. Il risultato più prestigioso però si raggiunse il 14 maggio del 1939 con al volante il pilota italiano Luigi Villoresi che si aggiudica il primo posto assoluto alla Targa Florio. La sigla 6CM significa monoposto a 6 cilindri e quando i motori da 1,5 litri con compressore volumetrico furono ammessi nella classe "Voiturette", Maserati sviluppò la 6CM sostituendo la 4CM. Questo modello da subito ebbe successo diventando praticamente imbattibile. Il motore a sei cilindri in linea con compressore aveva una potenza massima di 175 hp e grazie al peso della monoposto di soli 650 kg, le prestazioni furono molto elevate. Nelle mani dell'allora pilota italiano Carlo Felice "Didi" Trossi, la Maserati 6CM telaio numero 1532 nel 1938 vinse quattro delle cinque gare a cui partecipò e nella quinta arrivò secondo.
