Diving in Bali, at the famous USAT Liberty Wreck, with Southern Dreams Diving Club

Diving at the USAT Liberty Wreck, one of the most famous dive site in Bali, with Southern Dreams Diving Club The wreck was an American cargo ship from the WWII. In January 1942, while sailing from Australia to the Philippines, a Japanese submarine send a torpedo and damaged it so badly, but the boat didn't sink. Captain decided to change the heading and tried to rich Singaraya, North of Bali. But when they were in Tulamben, they couldn't manage the boat, and decided to leave it on the beach until they could come back and fix it. In 1963 the boat was still on the beach. It was a big earthquake followed by the eruption of Agung volcano, and that's actually what sinked the Liberty. Nowadays the wreck is lying only few meters away from shore and had become the house of a great biodiversity of marine life. It is home of hawksbill turtles, giant morays, bumphead parrotfish, octopus, schools of fusiliers, sweet lips, surgeon fish, giant clams, giant oysters, electric clams, garden eels, groupers, snappers, nudibranch, spanish dancer, leaf scorpion fish, frogfish, and tons of tropical fish.
