Here’s a really cute little mini buttercream flower to pipe onto your cupcakes! Piping buttercream leaves adds detail to your cupcake flower designs and makes them look super cute. I use American buttercream for piping flowers onto cupcakes. It's really quick and easy to make and it holds it's shape really well so it's great for piping petals with. Always add a crumb coat of buttercream to your cupcakes. It will cover any gaps between petals or leaves and keeps the sponge lovely and moist! The piping tips I've used in this video are: Wilton 102 for the petals Wilton #2 round for the tiny centre details Wilton 352 for the leaves I cut approx 5mm off the end of a piping bag to fill the centres in - you can use any round tip that fits if you prefer to use a piping tip! Remember to hold the petal tip (Wilton 102) so that the thin end is creating the delicate outside edges of your petal. When you fill in the centres you simply place the end of the piping bag in the centre of the flower and squeeze, holding it still, until the buttercream fills the gap. When it's full you stop squeezing, THEN come off. The added detail to the centres is done by hardly squeezing the piping bag, just touch the piping tip to the buttercream and give a quick squeeze and stop. Then come off. When you pipe leaves using the 352 piping tip, think of it as a birds beak, or an arrow. Point the tip where you want your leaf to be, touch down on the cupcake then squeeze and lift. When your buttercream leaf is the size you want it to be, stop squeezing and come off. You can add buttercream leaves at any angle you like and any size you like - it's your cupcake and you're in charge! TIP When you're piping flowers and leaves, the buttercream needs to stick to something to stay in place. If your leaves aren't sticking, make sure you touch the piping tip to the cupcake and squeeze a bit of buttercream out before you start lifting the piping bag. I like to use gel colours to colour my buttercream . They're really easy to use and a little bit goes a long way! So add it a couple of drops at a time and mix it really well. colours I use here: coloursplash pink squires whitener (or colour mill whitener) coloursplash sunflower yellow profel olice green
