Nestled in the pristine natural surroundings of the Caniçada reservoir in Portugal, the Caniçada House is a renovated box house of exposed, reinforced concrete with a bunker-like atmosphere. Originally, the existing house blocked for the incredible lake views but Atelier Carvaljo Araújo made it their mission to design a transparent middle floor which would permit the experience of the awe-inspiring lake views upon arrival. This is an architecture which fuses raw and minimal, durability and lightness. It is a place for discovery and for contemplation; where a continuous staircase takes you on a journey through the forest to the water.
