A guide to the Havelock Channel in the Pelorus Sound, New Zealand

This is one of the longest and shallowest channels you will ever encounter, so a bit a helpful local knowledge will take you a long way! We have done this trip in all sorts of conditions, in all sorts of different tide states and have never run aground....yet. The Havelock Channel is renown for it's complex currents and crosswinds, not to mention sand banks and shifting sands either side of the channel itself. At high tide all is good within the channel even if you have a 10 foot keel, but at low tide all bets are off! Join first mate Sophia as she takes us on a trip from deep in the stunning Kenepuru Sounds all the way to entering the Marina.
