(English description will follow the French one) Le 6 mai 2023, le Roi Charles III est couronné à Londres. C'est la première fois qu'il y a un couronnement dans la capitale anglaise depuis près de 70 ans. Le moins qu'on puisse dire, c'est que c'était réellement un événement historique. En plus de tous les symboles déjà en nombre important et très significatif en ce jour, le "full peal" de l'Abbaye de Westminster sonnait. Cette vidéo n’est qu’un extrait de cette grande sonnerie de plus de trois heures! Qu’est-ce que le full peal? Cette sonnerie spécifique s'appelle le "full peal", qui se traduit à "la volée plénière". Les événements et anniversaires importants, qu'ils soient royaux, nationaux ou liés à l'abbaye, sont marqués par la sonnerie du "full peal". Celle-ci comprend un minimum de 5000 changements (ou séquences) différents et s'effectue sans interruption. Le "peal" prend plus de trois heures et demande une concentration considérable de la part des sonneurs et du chef d'orchestre qui mémorisent tous la progression des 5000 changements. En effet, la sonnerie des cloches chez les anglicans n'est pas mécanique et automatique. Les sonneurs font vraiment partie de la tradition religieuse anglicane et sont intimement liés à ses églises. Les cloches : Le carillon de 10 cloches actuel a été dédié lors d'un service dans l'abbaye en 1971 par feue Sa Majesté la reine, Elizabeth II. La cloche ténor a un diamètre de 137 cm et un poids de 1,530 kg et est accordée à la note D. Elle porte l'inscription des dates des autres fontes des cloches ténors, soit "1430, 1599, 1738". La cloche "treble", la plus petite cloche, a un diamètre de 70 cm et a un poids de 246 kg. L'inscription sur chaque cloche rappelle sa dédicace et sa date de fonte/coulée. The bells are hung for traditional English style change ringing in which the bells swing full circle, allowing the ringers to vary the sequence in which the bells sound.
