TikTok has a serious problem with filming strangers, and it’s getting worse. For years, filming strangers in public has been a trend present in many types of social media content. Recently, a woman’s storytime video went viral on TikTok after sharing that her waxer wore Meta glasses during her Brazilian wax. There are multiple NYC influencers on TikTok that use Meta glasses to film their content. These influencers have received criticism for filming people in public without permission. Social media content that has always relied on filming strangers in public like rizz videos and prank videos also feature Meta glasses as a way to film people without them knowing. In this video, I discuss the TikTok trend of filming strangers and how influencers using Ray-Ban Meta glasses contributes to this issue.
