Philips Eco Conscious Edition Toaster 5000 Series Review

This arrived in what on the face of it appears to be recycled packaging but I was unable to find any reference to this being the case in the description or documentation. The outside has images of the toaster along with specifications and eco friendly statements. On the top you get the instructions and documentation and the lid cover, everything is protected and secured with bespoke card. First impressions: this is a fairly basic design with a twist knob for adjustment; a stop button and the lever to set the toast down, on the other side you have a lever to operate the bun rack. The toaster is quite light and in my opinion aseptically it is not the best looking, the lid cover looks fine when fitted but I feel better recycled material could have been used. I tested this out with standard sized slices of bread and the slots are very small so even with a small standard slice I found it failed to brown the top edge evenly. The bun warmer works well and I like the simplicity of the design. I have been using this at least twice a day since it arrived and the two main issues I have with it are the capacity of the slots meaning even a standard slice of bread fails to brown evenly, and the cover lid can only be replaced once the toaster has fully cooled down which in my opinion is badly thought out or designed. Overall while I admire the aspiration of releasing an eco friendly range I can’t help but feel this toaster misses the mark, it does not perform its most basic task of cooking a standard slice of bread correctly and I feel the addition of the lid cover while a nice idea the application fails in practicality. If the packaging is also recycled and environmentally friendly I would also like to see that clearly stated.
