Wood Sees Exploration Boom as Buy-Side Attendance Surges 38%

Denver Gold Group Executive Director Tim Wood says this year’s Mining Forum Americas delivered record investor engagement. Speaking to Kitco Mining, he said, “We are just thrilled with the outcome this year,” noting more than 4,000 meetings were completed compared to just over 3,000 last year. Attendance rose from 886 to a little over 1,000, driven by a 38% increase in buy-side delegates versus only 6 percent on the corporate side. Wood flagged major market news from Barrick, including the Fourmile PEA and the US$1 billion Hemlo sale, as well as Agnico confirming it would not bid for Teck. On Fourmile, he said, “The metrics, when you look at the potential for that project, are incredible.” Looking at investor sentiment, Wood said, “I think we are going to have another major discovery in the next four or five years.” He prefers dividends over buybacks as cash flows expand and argued the sector is entering a healthier cycle with more discipline, likening it to the way airlines stabilized after decades of boom and bust. Geopolitical discussions included a U.S. ambassador’s participation in Mali, highlighting the importance of consistent U.S. policy to encourage foreign direct investment. Wood also pointed to faster U.S. permitting and the growing role of stablecoins and royalties in gold finance as structural shifts to watch.
