A growing number of teachers are offering online support to students. This migration from the well-known tradition teaching space of the physical classroom to the contemporary online virtual learning platform brings many teachers to an unfamiliar territory. Class meetings and discussions are now taking place in virtual meeting rooms using audio and video as a means of public discourse. There is much to learn about how to effectively and respectfully communicate within these new digital oral environments. Without guidelines and established practices, teachers and students are left on their own to figure out how to effectively and respectfully communicate and share in this new community. First Nations traditional sharing circles offer many teachings on how to ensure all voices are heard and respected. These teachings can be shared during video calls to help facilitate respectful and effective communication. Teachings from First Nations knowledge keepers and Elders lead the conversations around establishing effective digital etiquette practices in these new digital learning environments. They offer expert insight into how we can effectively and respectfully communicate and share in virtual meeting places.
