Goose dies while ejecting from the plane after flying through the jet wash of Iceman's aircraft and going into an unrecoverable and fatal flat spin. The film reaches its emotional peak with this mournful tune. Overcome by guilt and sorrow, Pete "Maverick" Mitchell considers retiring from the competition for the Top Gun Trophy. More than his RIO, Nick "Goose" Bradshaw was like Mav's brother and his only family.
