I’m not sure if there has ever been a better time to be a fan of British jazz music than the last decade or so… from south east London, Manchester, Glasgow and all points in between, the scene is absolutely thriving, thanks to some incredible musicians, high-profile supporters and an excellent series of festivals and venues to hone the craft in. A short mix could never do justice to such a vibrant, diverse scene, and I also have my own favourite styles and sub-genres so this does tend towards the soul/jazz/hip-hop/broken beat ends of the spectrum rather than maybe more classic or spacey jazz. Expect tunes from the likes of Corto Alto, Wheel-Up, Nubya Garcia, Sons of Kemet and Sholto. Let me know your personal pics from the scene in the comments below.
