LIVE: Heads of ICE and other immigration agencies set to testify at House hearing today | US Congress LIVE | CNBC TV18 When pressed by Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell over whether he would resign over his agents’ actions – including the detainment in Minneapolis of 5-year-old Liam Ramos – ICE acting Director Todd Lyons refused. Lyons said ICE took care of the Ramos because his father “abandoned” him. Ramos — whose image has become a symbol of ICE resistance — was detained by ICE on January 20 as he was returning from school in Minneapolis. US District Judge Fred Biery ordered on Jan 31 that Liam and his father, who was also detained, be freed. Ramos and his family are originally from Ecuador and presented themselves to border officers in Texas in December 2024 to apply for asylum. DHS has continued to call Ramos’ father an “illegal alien.” WASHINGTON, D.C. - Top officials for U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Citizenship and Immigtation Services and Immigration and Customs Enforcement testify before House Homeland Security Committee. Witnesses: The Honorable Rodney S. Scott Commissioner, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Department of Homeland Security --- The Honorable Joseph B. Edlow Director, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, U.S. Department of Homeland Security --- Mr. Todd M. Lyons Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Director, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, U.S. Department of Homeland Security The leaders of three major immigration agencies are set to testify before the House Homeland Security Committee on Tuesday following intense scrutiny over the administration's recent crackdown in Minneapolis. The oversight hearing, which gets underway at 10 a.m., will feature testimony from Todd Lyons, the acting head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement; Rodney Scott, the commissioner of Customs and Border Protection; and Joseph Edlow, the director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. The Jan. 7 shooting of Renee Good and the Jan. 24 shooting of Alex Pretti by federal agents led to increased calls for congressional oversight of the administration's immigration operations. All three of the agencies fall under the Department of Homeland Security. While the officials had been invited to testify before Pretti's killing, the committee's GOP chairman formalized the invitation on the day of his death. #iceprotest #usimmigration #homelandsecurity #minneapolis #kristinoem #cnbctv18 #usatoday
